Kamalame

Have you ever been somewhere and relaxed so much that you begin questioning your own productivity? That's the effect that Kamalame has on me. Kamalame is the brainchild of Brian Hew, the father of one of my best friends Kimmy. It's a private island resort off of Andros Island in the Bahamas. I've been here a number of times over the past 8 years and everytime I reconfirm that this is the ultimate vacation/relaxation spot. It's full of lively people, beautiful weather, delicious food, and
some of the best times in my life. I'm here for 2 weeks, and then back to Miami for some serious work.

check out www.kamalame.com.

and then go there.

Wishing on Shooting Stars

Thanks to a tip from the Colonel Tennesee Joe Baxter, I watched the Perseid meteor shower and I'm still in complete awe. Never in my life have I seen more than 1 shooting star in a night....and Sunday night I saw more than 30. Not to mention the fact that it's a new moon, meaning there is no moon in the sky, and thus everything was that much better.

The Perseid happens every year in mid-August. Make sure not to miss it next year. It's incredible.

Underwater Photography

Ok so I ordered this underwater housing made by IKELITE. These guys make the housing for all the Discovery channel and National Geographic DPs. I bought one for my little (not so) wimpy digital camera, the Canon SD 630. And now that I have it and took some sick pictures in my pool, I have all faith that the next two weeks in the Bahamas are going to be so much better.

Here's a bunch of other resources for underwater photography on Ikelite's page: http://ikelite.com/web_two/othersites.html

yippee!

I Want To Be SUPERBAD

Last night I went to a screening of SuperBad, at the WGA theater courtesy of Creative Screenwriting.com. This is the first movie in a long while that receives the coveted "4-Stars" from me. (I work on the 4-star system...because then there is no middle ground). The film was perfectly cast, with Jonah Hill and Michael Cera playing opposite one another as two high school seniors and their mission: to get booze to a party they were invited to. The humor is great; I think the last time I laughed like that in a movie was Tommy Boy.

PEEP SUBERBAD.

The First Poll

I've spent a bunch of time checking out the polls on Facebook...and the results are often very interesting. But the questions tend to suck - so I'm setting up my own polls with awesome questions.

1st up - Would you rather be rich or famous?

Doo it.

So Green, It's Black

In a continued effort to appear like a real Californian, I am always in the search for things that are green-er than normal. A dry cleaner that uses bio-chemicals (isn't that an oxymoron), a solar cell installer, and biowaste removal...all have become part of my daily life after I moved to LA.

So I present my contribution (read: discovery) to the green plight: Blackle.

A group called Heap Media created Blackle under the assumption that black websites use about 15 less watts of energy to display than white pages. Thus: a black Google is a more friendly Google. While the site claims to have all the same features as the regular Google, it's actually just a basic search...but still powered by Google nonetheless.

Check out Blackle.

The Laughing God

It's about time this film gets some props. Directed by Mark Mocahbee, it stars Michael McGee and Howard Elfman opposite on another as the same guy, at different ages. As Mark explains it: what would you do if you could meet yourself?

Enjoy the show.

Simpsonize Me

Although I have no yet seen the new SIMPSONS movie (gasp!), I have found another piece of life that I now know I could never live without.

Introducing: The Simpsonizer. AKA, make yourself into a Simpson character.

A brilliant marketing plan for a (potentially) brilliant movie.

Oh yea, and here is me as a Simpson:

and here is Anais:

I think its spot on.

LIFTED

I saw Ratatouille the other night, great movie. But even better than to movie itself was the short film that preceded it.

Jumping Out of Perfectly Good Planes

A few weeks ago, me and Matt went tandem skydiving. 30 minutes of briefing on the ground, watch a safety video, get in a small prop plane, and climb to 13,500 feet. 1,2, 3 and you are falling straight down at 130mph. I'm being filmed by an awesome girl in a pink skydiving outfit, with webbing to help her control her descent. At 5500 feet, the chute is pulled, and I got a 360 degree view of Florida. I could see East to West coasts, and all the way to the Keys. We glided for another 5 minutes to the landing spot, close to the skydiving facility.

My plan is to get certified, so I can do it solo. My mom doesn't think it's a great idea.

Amazing experience. Make sure to put it on your calendar.
